OUR MISSION
MISSION STATEMENT
Our program is committed to achieving the high levels of excellence in music education, performance, and development of positive character and culture. Through music and music-related experiences, we commit to the enrichment of all students involved. Important to the core of what we do is promotion of every student’s ability to achieve, to belong, and to grow as musicians. Through the many opportunities we are afforded in our program, students also have a wide breadth of experiences from which to develop personally and as leaders. We are committed to promoting and maintaining a positive culture, and a great experience for each student to carry with them for their lifetime.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
Our band program understands that every student has potential, and every student holds an important place in our performing ensembles. Being a part of a performing group offers an extraordinary opportunity to challenge students and help them develop cognitively, affectively, socially, collaboratively, and physically. Furthermore, performing in a musical ensemble affords students a vehicle for emotional expression, furtherance of intrinsic worth, and development of self-discipline. This helps reinforce students for the challenges of life, both academically and beyond the classroom.
ROLE OF COMPETITION AND ADJUDICATION
Our band program has a long and successful legacy of excellence in performance in adjudicated events, both in OMEA and BOA, respectively. To pay respect to that legacy, we continue regular participation in OMEA events, both as a full ensemble, and at Solo and Ensemble. The essence of why we participate in these events is to receive critical feedback, improve, and grow as individuals and as an ensemble. While earning trophies and other accolades is always an enjoyable, fleeting experience, it is the experience of participation and growth that continue to drive us to regularly participate in adjudicated events. Competitive and adjudicated results do not define us, but rather help guide us in our continued mission to be the best we can be.
PURPOSE OF PERFORMANCE
Our band program performs in numerous ways - concerts, Solo & Ensemble, adjudicated events, athletic events, parades, festivals, etc. We offer a variety of performance opportunities to broaden our students’ musical experiences. In any performance situation, the utmost concern is performing quality literature at a high level. Through the performance of high quality literature, students are challenged to learn, grow, adapt, and develop deeper understanding of music and it’s role in our world. In addition, the experience of performing high quality literature allows students a chance to develop a more profound love for music-making that will last a lifetime. While we do perform and are regularly present an many school athletic events to show support, our primary purpose is to educate students musically.
OUR ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY
We take our role in the Marietta community very seriously, as the community has been overwhelmingly supportive of music education in our schools. One of the hallmarks of our program is to be present in our community through performance in parades, festivals, events, athletic events, etc. Our mission is to show appreciation to those that support us, spread the love of music and music-making, continue to demonstrate the ongoing and critical importance of music education and music in our lives, and to showcase the talents and efforts of our students.
